A German automotive supplier picked Spartanburg County for its new North American production facility.

Lindoerfer & Steiner GmbH — a maker of reusable packaging materials for automotive companies like Porsche, BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen — plans to invest $400,000 and create 32 jobs over the next five years.

Its U.S. headquarters and manufacturing operation, with associated national sales and distribution operations, will be established at 111 Corporate Drive in Spartanburg.

“We are excited to take this step and set up our new North American operations in Spartanburg County,” said Peter Steiner, director and owner of Lindoerfer & Steiner GmbH, in a news release. “Our location in South Carolina not only provides us with a great business environment, but gives us close proximity to our customers.”

The company will make an announcement at a later date about specific hiring plans.

“Lindoerfer & Steiner represent yet another example of international investment in our community,” said Economic Futures Group Board Chairman Russ Weber in a news release. “Spartanburg County has always maintained a strong relationship with Western Europe and we continue expanding on this relationship.”

Since January 2011, South Carolina has recruited more than $5 billion in capital investment and more than 8,000 jobs in the automotive-related sector, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce.
